Mode of Action
- P. fluorescens produces antifungal compounds which are fungistic, inhibiting spore germination and lysis of fungal mycelia.It is very effective antibiotic producers like 2,4 – Diacetyl phloroglucinol (DAPG), Pyocinine, Pyrrolnitrin, Oomycin – A, etc. which are work against the plant pathogen.
- It produces siderophore (Ferroxamine -B, Ferrichrome, Pseudobactin) which is low molecular weight and extra cellular compound with very high affinity of ferric iron. As siderophores sequester the limited supply of iron in the rhizosphere, they limit its availability to pathogens and ultimately suppress their growth.
- It induces systemic resistance in plants that is phenotypically similar to systemic acquired resistance (SAR) which induce mainly through production of phytoalexins, increased lignification and production of PR – protein in the induced plant.
